Our History - The Afton Dance Club

The club was formed in 1972 upon the demise of the Afton School of Dancing when some of the members of the dance school decided they did not want to lose the social contact and pleasure they had gained from their dancing. Those members then formed a small committee to create and organise the Afton Dance Club. Two of the original committee of six, David and Heather Oswald are indeed still active members.

In 2003, some thirty-one years on, the Afton Dance Club was the first Amateur Dance Club to formally affiliate itself with Dancesport Scotland, the official governing body for Amateur Ballroom Dancing in Scotland, with some of our members being active committee members of that main governing body.
